Unoccupied property insurance factsheet – advice for owners of empty property

Bickers Insurance Services have produced a factsheet for owners of unoccupied property, highlighting the cover restrictions which may apply when a home becomes empty because of the owner moving into care or passing away. The simple factsheet, as well as advising of the likely restrictions on standard home insurance policies, gives some valuable advice as to how to get the level of cover desired. When a property is empty there are a number of exclusions in cover that are usually applied by an insurer. This usually involves removing cover for escape of water, burst pipes, theft, theft damage and malicious damage.

We feel that by providing the empty home insurance factsheet, we can help increase awareness of the implications of leaving a property empty and provide guidance as to how to find a solution, empowering householders and their families to make an informed choice about the cover they arrange.
